Do large family size far infrared saunas exist?

Posted on October 21, 2019

Traditional saunas and steam rooms come in all different shapes and sizes. Anyone who has visited a spa or gym has no doubt witnessed how versatile these structures can be in both size and shape. Large infrared saunas are harder to find and Infrared saunas generally seem to be smaller and only suitable for 1 or 2 or maybe at best 3 people. If you are looking for a family size infrared sauna which will accommodate a larger group, maybe a 5-person infrared sauna or a 6-person infrared sauna, the options seem to be more limited.

Infrared Sauna

Part of the reason for this is that infrared sauna technology is very suitable for a sitting up sauna experience. You do not need to lie down and the temperature is a lot lower. In a traditional sauna, with temperatures up to 90 degrees Celsius, the temperature difference between your feet and head, when sitting up, can be 10 to 20 degrees. This is why in a traditional sauna it is better to lie down. Is this the only reason? Or is there a technical challenge as well? Infrared saunas typically are pre-built and are delivered flat pack. This limits the size. It is technically very challenging to build a 5-person sauna or a large infrared sauna in general which is easy to assemble and still is solid and strong enough to guarantee safety and durability.

Another technical challenge with building a 6-person infrared sauna is the actual far infrared heaters system. In order to generate the desired benefits of an infrared sauna, the heaters have to generate a minimum level of far infrared output. It is the amount and wavelength of infrared light generated that counts. Regardless of the fact whether it is a small or a large infrared sauna. Since most manufacturers use a version of the industry’s generic carbon panel heaters, they are limited in the amount of output they can generate finding it hard to cover the entire inside space of a 5-person sauna cabin. Health Mate® has used it’s 40 years of experience to create a unique range of large far infrared saunas. This range of family infrared saunas has been named the lounger range. The carpentry and craftmanship is outstanding. The large panels come in two parts with a unique screw and bolt connection system with added click system on top. The cabins still come flat packed and the individual panels are easy to handle. Once constructed, the structure is enormously sturdy and solid.

In addition, the powerful Health Mate® Tecoloy® heaters allow for an abundance of evenly distributed far infrared light. There are no cold spots or temperature drops and exposure is even throughout the cabin. Similar as with the smaller Health Mate® infrared sauna cabins. In fact, Health Mate® guarantees the same wattage output per square foot for every sauna cabin in its collection. Whether this is a small 1-person cabin or a large 6-person sauna.

The Lounger range includes some fantastic displays of craftmanship. The Lounger 1 and Lounger 2 boast a 2-level bench system which is unique in the infrared sauna market. No other manufacturer has yet been able to pull this off. Benches are up to 200cm long. In addition, there is the option of a folding bench. Lounger 2 focusses around the very long – 212 cm – bench which allows anyone to stretch out and lie down, or alternative sit up to 5 people which makes this a very convenient 5-person sauna which will still fit in most homes. The Lounger 4 is the flag ship, with a U-shaped bench setup and 2 large 212cm long folding benches, this is a true 6-person infrared sauna.

So, as we can see, this Health Mate® Lounger range offers plenty of large infrared sauna options. Whether you want to add one to your pool house, home gym, summer house or just in a spare room or garage. Health Mate® has the right option for anyone.
